Eddie Astanin, Chairman of the Executive Board of National Settlement Depository (NSD), Russia’s central securities depository, took part in the 18th Symposium of the International Securities Services Association (ISSA). The event was held on 24-27 May 2016 in Ermatingen, Switzerland.
Every other year, the ISSA Symposium brings together delegates to discuss important global trends in the securities services industry, exchange opinions and share their experience with colleagues.
This year, the symposium’s theme was “Key Levers for Next Generation in Securities Space – Impacts of Transformative Technologies.” Experts and guests of the event discussed new technologies (including blockchain) and their impact on services, key business models and processes. The participants of the symposium also raised issues of risks associated with custody and cybercrime.
Striving to guarantee information systems’ reliability, continuity and safety, NSD closely monitors the development of the FinTech sector and analyses the possibility of using the newest financial technologies. In particular, in April NSD successfully tested the prototype of e-proxy voting system based on the blockchain technology.
