In 2021, financial market participants invested RUB 152 billion in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) bonds traded on the Moscow Exchange. In total, as at the end of the year, the value of securities held on financial market participants’ securities accounts* amounted to RUB 175.4 billion.
The Sustainable Development Sector was established at the Moscow Exchange in 2019 in order to finance projects related to ecology and environmental protection, and socially significant projects. It consists of four segments: Green Bonds, Social Bonds, Sustainability Bonds, and National and Adaptation Projects.
As of 31 December 2021, there were 22 issues of ESG bonds of 13 issuers in the Sustainable Development Sector, 10 issues of which were issued in 2021.

The total turnover of ESG bonds traded on the Moscow Exchange amounted to RUB 13.6 billion.

NSD is preparing to launch a report on nsddata.ru website that will provide data on the daily calculation of the share of residents for bonds included in the sustainable development sector of the Moscow Exchange, broken down by the profile of holders: banks, professional participants and specialized depositories.
