As a member of the international Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) since 1999, NSD acts as the National Numbering Agency for Russia and the Substitute Numbering Agency for the CIS countries. In this capacity, NSD's key role is to allocate ISINs and CFIs to securities and other financial instruments of Russian issuers, as well as to financial instruments issued or registered in Russia. In addition, NSD is the single source of information on international identification codes allocated in Russia and contributes to their wider use in the Russian market.
NSD transmits information on Russian financial instruments and their ISINs and CFIs to ANNA's global database on a daily basis, keeps information on ISINs and CFIs up-to-date, and is involved in the efforts to ensure the efficiency of the global system for identification of securities by applying international standards of codification and classification of financial instruments in the Russian securities market.
NSD provides Russian market participants with information on ISINs and CFIs allocated to non-Russian financial instruments, and assists in allocating ISINs and CFIs if those have not yet been allocated, and in correcting existing CFIs if they do not meet the requirements of Russian laws that govern qualification of securities.
